CRYOSURGERY

Freezing lesions with liquid nitrogen is a simple but very effective method for removing brown spots (lentigines), warts (verruca), precancerous spots (actinic keratoses), and seborrheic keratoses.

Freezing is called cryosurgery and it is used whenever possible because it is usually the simplest and it reduces the risk of scarring when removing growths or spots.

Usually, no special care is required after cryosurgery.  It is okay to wash the treated lesions, apply make-up, exercise, and go about your normal activities.

Lesions That Can Be Treated with Cryosurgery
Actinic Keratoses
Rough, reddish precancerous lesions that appear on sun-exposed areas of the body.
Lentingines
Benign lesions that occur on the sun-exposed areas of the body. The backs of hands and face are common areas.  These flat lesions usually have discrete borders, are dark in color, and have an irregular shape.
Seborrheic Keratoses
Warty, raised tan or brown growths with a thick, rough surface that often become itchy and irritated by clothing.
Molluscum
Pink or flesh-colored bumps on the skin caused by a virus. These bumps can appear anywhere on the skin and can spread easily from person to person.
Verruca (Warts)
Growths that are caused by a virus and consist of thick layers of skin.  People of all ages may develop warts anywhere on the skin.  Warts may need multiple treatments to fully resolve.
