What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is performed using a small hand-held, wireless tool with microscopic needles, each smaller than the width of a human hair. We use the 3rd generation SkinPen® Precision, the leading microneedling procedure device. The SkinPen® uses a sterile single use surgical grade disposable cartridge containing 14 needles.

 

When applied to the skin it creates controlled microscopic wounds (tiny micro-channels), that are invisible to the naked eye, at the rate of 98,000 per minute.

 

The small channels close very quickly and the repair process begins almost immediately. This process stimulates the skin’s natural ability to heal itself and in the process produces the collagen and elastin that rejuvenate your skin.

What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. PRP supercharges the microneedling benefits. Platelets are what initiate and speed up all healing in your body. PRP has been used for years in orthopedics, dentistry and reconstructive surgery to help heal tissue and speed recovery.

 

We obtain your PRP by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm the day of your procedure. A vial of your blood is placed in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Platelets contain powerful growth factors that stimulate cellular regeneration and new tissue growth.

What does microneedling feel like?

We apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area so any discomfort is minimized. Microneedling feels like light sandpaper being moved across the skin.

How long does the procedure take?

The numbing process takes about 30 minutes. While you’re waiting we centrifuge your blood to obtain the PRP. The microneedling procedure takes 30-45 minutes depending on the treatment area.

Is microneedling effective without PRP?

Yes. Microneedling is frequently done by itself and it works well. However, the true power of the procedure is unleashed when combined with PRP as benefits are amplified and healing time reduced.

How many treatments are necessary?

We recommend 3 treatments about one month apart to see significant results. More treatments can be done if even more rejuvenation is desired.

 

How long until there is noticeable improvement?

Visible improvements typically begin to appear 2-4 weeks from the time of treatment. However, the most optimal results are noticeable after 6 months. These results are long lasting-many years.
