What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. Platelets circulate in the blood and contain powerful growth factors that heal and rejuvenate tissue. In the scalp these growth factors stimulate cellular regeneration of the follicles and new hair growth.

 

We obtain your PRP by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm the day of your procedure. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the PRP (platelet rich plasma). A local anesthetic is mixed with the PRP to minimize any discomfort.

 

The PRP is injected directly into the scalp in the desired areas. Within a few months there is a very nice growth of new hair with a perfectly natural and healthier appearance. The treatment not only increases the density of the hair but also the thickness (width) of individual hairs.

How many treatments are necessary?

We recommend 3 treatments about one month apart to see significant results. Four or five treatments can be done if more hair growth is desired.

How long until there is new hair growth?

While new hair growth can be seen as early as 2 months, the most optimal results are noticeable after 6 months.

Who is a good candidate for PRP?
